Dra. Janese Laster-Butler

Dr. Janese Laster-Butler brings a wealth of expertise to her practice as a quadruple board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Obesity Medicine, and Nutrition. She earned her undergraduate degree at Spelman College and her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). She completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

During her fellowship, Dr. Laster-Butler discovered her passion for nutrition, obesity management, and bariatric endoscopy. This passion led her to pursue further specialization through the Nestlé Nutrition Institute Clinical Nutrition Fellowship and an advanced Bariatric Endoscopy Fellowship at HM University Sanchinarro Hospital in Madrid, Spain.

In 2020, she founded Gut Theory Total Digestive Care, a comprehensive practice dedicated to gastroenterology, obesity management, and nutrition. Her patient-centered approach includes personalized nutrition counseling, management of anti-obesity medications, and non-invasive bariatric procedures such as gastric balloon and ESG (endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty).

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Laster-Butler is a proactive advocate for expanded insurance coverage for obesity care and remains committed to the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows.
