Coverage & benefits
Does insurance cover endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG)?
Coverage for ESG has traditionally been limited under many commercial health insurance plans. However, a growing number of employer-sponsored health plans now cover ESG through Everself. Depending on your employer and health plan, eligible members may have most or all of the procedure covered, subject to applicable deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance. Start a coverage check, and we'll verify your benefits for you.
How much of the ESG cost does my employer cover?
Many participating employer-sponsored health plans cover up to 100% of the cost of ESG, subject to applicable deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance. Coverage varies by employer and health plan, and we'll verify your benefits and explain any expected out-of-pocket costs before treatment.
My employer is on the list — am I covered?
The list reflects employers whose health plans may include ESG coverage. Even when your employer is listed, we still confirm your individual eligibility with your benefits program. Submit a coverage check, and we'll verify your benefits for you.
My employer isn't on the list — do I have options?
Yes. The list isn't exhaustive, and new employers and health plans may become eligible over time. Submit a coverage check, and we'll verify whether your employer-sponsored health plan includes ESG coverage. If your employer doesn't currently cover ESG, you can still move forward with our self-pay option. Financing is available starting at approximately $297/month through Cherry and CareCredit, and HSA/FSA funds may also be used for eligible expenses.
About ESG
What is ESG (Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty)?
ESG (endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty) is a non-surgical, endoscopic weight loss procedure done through the mouth — no incisions, no scars, no hospital stay. In about one hour, your stomach is tightened from the inside so you feel full sooner. Patients average 20% total body weight loss, and you're home the same day. Our physicians invented the procedure at Harvard in 2012.
Is ESG safe?
Yes. ESG is a minimally invasive, outpatient endoscopic procedure with a well-established safety profile. Because it is performed entirely through the mouth, there are no external incisions, and no portion of the stomach is removed. Compared with bariatric surgery, ESG has a lower risk of serious complications and a shorter recovery time. Most patients return home the same day and resume normal activities within 1–3 days. The procedure was pioneered by our physicians at Harvard and has now been performed in more than 20,000 patients worldwide.
Who is a candidate for ESG?
ESG may be a good option for adults with obesity who are looking for meaningful, long-term weight loss without surgery. In general, candidates have a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related medical condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, or fatty liver disease. ESG can also be an option for people who have not achieved their weight-loss goals with lifestyle changes or medications, or who prefer a minimally invasive alternative to bariatric surgery.
How is Everself ESG different from other providers?
Not all ESG is the same. Everself's physicians invented the procedure at Harvard, and every Everself ESG follows the original protocol they developed — the suture pattern, depth, and technique that separate durable 20% weight loss from early regain. You're treated by the team that pioneered ESG, at Centers of Excellence across the country, with comprehensive weight-care support built around the procedure.
