Important safety information

Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe) is a non-surgical endoscopic procedure performed through the mouth using a specialized suturing device to reduce the size of the gastrojejunal anastomosis (GJA) after gastric bypass surgery. TORe is FDA-authorized for the treatment of weight regain after gastric bypass and has been shown to be a safe and effective treatment when performed by trained bariatric endoscopists.

A large ASGE meta-analysis of over 1,000 patients demonstrated an average weight loss of approximately 10% from baseline weight at one year, a severe adverse event rate of approximately 1.5% and no procedure-related mortality. Most side effects are mild and temporary, such as abdominal discomfort, nausea, or stenosis (a narrowed GJA). Rare but serious risks include bleeding and perforation.

Because TORe involves altering the gastric bypass anatomy, it should only be performed by clinicians experienced in bariatric endoscopy. At Everself, all patients complete thorough medical history review and blood work for final clearance, and every physician is certified in our proprietary technique to support safety and long-term success. As with any medical procedure, risks exist, and our team will guide you through them so you can make an informed decision.

Approach
360° reinforced wall of sutures tightens the gastric outlet, distributing pressure evenly for long-term durability.
Adds ESD, a technique for even deeper, more durable stitching, leading to improved healing and maximum durability.
One-sided suturing of the gastric outlet creates a single weak point that stretches and loosens under food pressure.
Removes or reroutes part of the stomach and intestine, creating a permanent anatomical change.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a gastric bypass revision procedure take?

The procedure itself takes approximately 45 minutes. However, you should plan on spending about half a day with us including preparation and recovery.

What is recovery like after a gastric bypass revision procedure?

Patients go home on the same day. Most take a few days off to recover at home before returning to work. After the procedure, patients follow a full liquid meal plan, which includes protein shakes and similar products, then transition to a soft diet, which includes easy-to-eat foods such as oatmeal and bananas, and then return to regular eating.

How does an endoscopic gastric bypass revision compare to a revisional surgery?

Endoscopic revision is safer, done through the mouth with a 1% complication rate, and offers quick recovery. Surgical revisions, such as making the pouch smaller or altering the bypass, are riskier with an average complication rate of 29%.4

What are the risks of the gastric bypass revision procedure?

Mild indigestion, nausea, upper abdominal pressure or pain may occur. The major complication rate, including infection or bleeding, is less than 1%.

Is an evaluation required before a gastric bypass revision procedure?

An upper endoscopy or barium test may be recommended to check your pouch and outlet if not recently evaluated. Usually, this is done at the beginning of the procedure.

Is gastric bypass revision covered by insurance?

Unfortunately, insurance does not cover endoscopic sleeve revision procedures yet. However, we offer several financing options. Learn more about our pricing and financing options.
